What he/she says
I am a male aged 50 years. I am Diabetic and Hypertensive since 10 years. Quite active in field as well as daily brisk exercises. Over a period of few weeks I noticed difficulty in climbing up hill and I observed that my walking speed had come down. When observed it was seen that my Hemoglobin level was going down and good cholesterol was also going down. But I was not given a satisfactory diagnosis for the same. Subsequently I developed a peculiar disorder which called for loose motion immediately after lunch and it was un controllable. This was also not diagnosed satisfactorily. Physicians used to say it is common in Diabetic patients.
During first week of November 2016 I approached one of the leading hospitals at Manipal for above symptoms. My lab analysis showed WBC count to extent of 90K. On my request when physician inspected me he has felt some enlargement in Lymph nodes. He advised me to undergo FN biopsy of nodes. After various tests and Bone marrow biopsy I was diagnosed for Follicular Lymphoma Stage lll/lV. It was a shocking news for me to be diagnosed with cancer. Lot of questions were in my and family mind- how will be my life? What treatment? Whether I will be able to tolerate that treatment ? What about my job? How long I have to take leave excetra?.
Subsequently I have approached Dr. S K Gupta for second opinion and he has clearly explained the facts and I was convinced about my illness its nature, course of treatment, side effects. He explained about recent advances in my disease including adding target medicines against cancer cells along with old year’s treatment modality – chemotherapy. I have completed six cycles of Chemo. My PET CT scan reports and lab reports have shown promising results. I am aware that its not rare disease and there are others also suffering from this sort of disorders. There are lot of doctors who can treat this disorders including- medical oncologist, and in our country even surgical and radiation oncologist also treat them. But what’s most important in these stress period –how well and at what comfort level you have receive d a treatment from appropriate professional expert. He used to be physically present near me whenever Chemo- immunosuppressive medicines were administered. His way of explaining, and making planned admission, treatment is awesome. I remember my body did not accept the first dose of Rituximab and I felt congestion in heart and suffered breathing problem. Dr S K Gupta has given some remedial dose and subsequently Rituximab was administered.. By heart I feel that any person whether its child, adult of elderly of any age group suffering from blood – lymphatic system and bone marrow disorders which includes cancerous ( Like- lymphoma, myeloma, leukemia- blood cancers) and noncancerous (Like- aplastic anemia, thalassemia , sickle cell anemia , bleeding – clotting disorders extra) should have consultation or if possible treatment with him and his team. Early diagnosis and proper timely treatment is key for fruitful outcome in these disorders. I and my family shall always remain thankful to Dr. S K Gupta for his treatment.
