What he/she says
I am father of my 7yr old child and we belongs to Bangalore kormangala , , affected by cancer (B-ALL),on 26/04/2016 , when he had fever and sever leg pain, for which we were admitted in nearby hospital but from past 5-7 days they were doing blood tests and not able to recognize my son problem. When I met Dr SK Gupta though somebody reference, by seeing first day blood reports itself he told that most likely he is suffering from blood cancer(which outside doctors took 6days to detect this life threating blood disorder). We all were very shocked ,we don’t know what to do next ,because we are belongs to poor family and he is only son to us. Finally we decided to get admitted to cancer specialized hospital (HCG) in Bangalore, and get treated only under hematologist specialized Doctor S K Gupta .
After doing further investigations like bone marrow, my son diagnosed as Philadelphia positive B-ALL and Doctor started treatment & gave chemotherapy to control it. My child tolerated all cycles of chemotherapy well with some episodes of fever which require in between some admission. As per common belief what we were having like- chemo will cause pain and burning to body. None of like these side effects (Pain excetra) were there. As this was high risk cancer we were counseled about BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT to reduce the chances of recurrence in future. We don’t have knowledge regarding BMT then doctor explained in easy language then only we decided to take this treatment. There was no full match in my family but there was half HLA match with me (Haplo-identical transplant). Initially we were very much worried about risk and success of Haplo-identical transplant vs full matched transplant. Dr Gupta tried lot to get full matched blood producing stem cells from Inside or outside India but meanwhile he continue to counsel about as equal success with half matched transplant compare to full matched in cancers. Finally my son was admitted on 06.01.2017 in BMT ward for Haplo-transplant and nearly 4-5 weeks we stayed in hospital, during which he received whole body radiotherapy and various chemotherapy which most of time don’t know but Dr Gupta and his staff explained every day in detail, specially doctor gave hope and psychologically support for us and his way of talking, smile face ,dedication gave us confident. We know that there is no guarantee that this cancer will be 100% cured but he has been given world class treatment for this fatal cancer and to not to forget to thank god that its almost 3month my son has been discharged and recovered and in regularly follow-up is going on in OPD. What myself and my family has learned in this almost 1yr Journey that most of time treatment protocol are same for any cancer but how it’s being delivered at personal level to each patient is very important.
Its my and my family members personal advise to consult Dr SK Gupta for any bone marrow or blood related cancerous and non-cancerous (Aplastic anemia, Thalassemia, ITP, Bleeding and Clotting disorders) to get benefit of early diagnosis and proper guidance which are most of time are lacking in these days .
