A 6 year old blood cancer survivor Stays Strong To Inspire Others

Lets read a story of a Blood Cancer Survivor –

Blood Cancer Survivor

A diagnosis of blood cancer can change lives; not only for the patients but also for their family and friends who love them. Let’s look at Bhavya’s (blood cancer survivor) (name changed) cancer treatment journey and experience with Dr. S.K. Gupta at Hematology BMT Institute International.

Bhavya (blood cancer survivor) was 6 years old when she was diagnosed with blood cancer. It all started in mid-January 2019 when she started suffering from fever, cough, and cold. She also started losing weight drastically. Her family took her to a local hospital at Shadnagar but no difference was seen in her health. As time passed by, the fever started rising along with tremendous weight loss and mouth ulcers. The Government Hospital at Shadnagar conducted various tests and asked her family to take her to any good hospital. Later, Bhavya’s family took her to their native place located in Solapur, Maharashtra.

In March 2019, she was admitted to Markandeya Sahakari Rugnalaya under the observation of Dr. Shrishi Keyur. Treatments started and several tests were performed. The doctor after studying the results told Bhavya’s uncle that Bhavya is diagnosed with cancer. Her family tried consulting various other doctors but none of them matched their expectations. Finally, Bhavya’s uncle, Anand (name changed) insisted on consulting a Paediatric Hematologist, Dr. Dhinanth Mangeshkar in Pune. The doctor informed the family that Bhavya is suffering from blood cancer and it has already spread across 95% of her body. The doctor insisted on starting the treatment immediately.

Amidst the dilemma, Bhavya’s family came to know about Dr. S.K. Gupta, senior consultant and founder at Hematology BMT Institute International, Hyderabad. Upon reaching the hospital, Prema, Dr. Gupta’s assistant, received them and took a brief medical history of Bhavya. Dr. Gupta guided Bhavya and her family through blood cancer and its treatments. Her family felt relaxed after receiving the doctor’s counseling. Bone marrow, Fisher mark, and other tests were done to understand what exactly is the case. Dr. Gupta then started Chemotherapy, which was a difficult phase for Bhavya and her family. Bhavya’s Chemotherapy lasted for 4 months. It was a difficult phase especially when the WBCs and platelet count were being closely monitored. During these times, the hospital management was so keen and supportive that it made it easier for the family to stay strong. Dr. Gupta spent time listening and answering the patient and her family member’s questions. He treated Bhavya as his child and played with her during his visits, which motivated her for a faster recovery.

Bhavya’s mother said, “A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Gupta for my daughter’s second birth. Thanks to the management and staff for their all-time support. It was a great experience at Hematology and BMT Institute International.”
